Ochun is the Orisha of love, fertility, femininity, the river, marriage, intimacy, beauty, and wealth. Ochun likes to heal sadness with love, and plants seeds of change in people. Ochun is irresistible to humans and is able to seduce whomever she wishes.

Goddess Yemaya is the mother of all living things. She gave birth to the stars and the moon. She represents motherly affection, and the affairs of women such as fertility, children, birthing and family.

Oya is a fierce and powerful female warrior Orisha. She is the owner of the marketplace, and keeps the gates of the cemetery. She is the force of change in nature and in life. She wields lightening and rides the winds into battle, often fighting with her machetes by her side.

Ochoshi, the lord of justice, is a skilled, stealthy hunter who lives in the forest. Ochosi knows the wilderness better than anyone else and has mastered the art of tracking his prey and killing it while being totally undetectable. While he knows the wild parts of the world, he does not make his residence there.

Babalu Aye is an Orisha strongly associated with the infectious disease and healing. The name Babalu Aye translates as "Father, Lord of the Earth. Although strongly associated with illness and disease, Babalu Aye is also the Santo that cures these ailments.

Obatala is the creator of Earth and sculptor of mankind. Obatala was given this job by his father, Olodumare. Obatala is the eldest of the orishas and King of the Earth. Obatala is the purest of all orishas and one of the wisest. It is said that Obatala varies from an old man, to a young warrior that rides into battle on horse. He also works to restore and preserve peace at all times. Obatala encourages us to be patient and to handle matters with calm and reason. The ashé (power) of Obatala is perfectly embodied within his favorite color, white. Owner of the white cloth, all offerings are also white to reflect his spiritual purity and the coolness of his energy.

The Mayombe and Kimbiza origins come from the countires of Zaire, Congo, Angola, Sambia, and all the countires where the Bantu tribes and located. The religion of Palo developed in Cuba, Haiti, and other parts of the Caribbean. 

Osain is one of the most important Orishas because without Osain there would be no way to correctly perform the ceremonies of "making" the Orishas. Osain is the owner of all the plants and trees that grow wild in the woods. He has nothing to do with cultivated plants. For a plant to have the ache that Osain gives to it, it must be found growing wild in the woods. Osain was the greatest herbalist and knows all the secrets of every plant. Although the other Orishas share the use of certain plants, Osain is the true owner and a tribute must be paid to Osain, before one can enter into the woods to collect plants. There are many stories of how Osain came to shave his ownership of plants with the other Orishas. Reportedly Osain kept his secret medicinal and magical herbs in a large "guiro" or calabash gourd hanging high in a tree in the forest. Osain lives in the deepest woods and does not like the company of others. The CD will include various songs that are dedicated to Osain and that are used during the process of Osain ceremonies.

They were the first beings given specific tasks to complete by Oludmare (God) and it's also important to know that the Irunmole are not human beings; they are pure spirit/energy. Each Irunmole was assigned a specific duty by Oludumare and should not be considered gods. The Eboras, also primordial beings live in nature and in the Earth. The orishas are the emissaries of Olodumare or God almighty. They rule over the forces of nature and the endeavors of humanity. 

Meridilogun - 16 Shells (English Version)

This CD explains the proverbs and philosophy of the divination process with bata drumming and prayers. This English version is based upon the current teachings of Cuba. For the first time, Bata drumming with the Meridilogun proverbs being spoken at the same time. 

 

 

This Spanish version is based upon the 1950s teachings of Cuba. Diloggun is a method of divination used by initiates in the African religion of La Regla de Ocha to ask questions to the Orishas. The Dillogun is used to help divine using the Cowrie Shells, the traditional way of accessing proverbs and advices from the Orisha. Peter De Jesus gives an oral explanation in English of each Odu or Sign for the diloggun.
